History
With the original program name of Faith in the Family/USA, this ministry was launched under the umbrella of National Foundation, Inc. on January 1, 1991 by Marty and Jerrye Granger.
After twenty years in youth ministry as a staff member with Youth for Christ/USA, Marty knew it was time to broaden his ministry influence in order to include outreach to adults. During the years 1991-1993, Marty spoke and taught on family issues, led retreats for married couples and was asked to assist other Christian organizations such as the National Center for Fathering, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Youth for Christ/USA, and True Love Waits in facilitating major events and activities in Washington, D.C. In December 1993 Faith in the Family withdrew from National Foundation, Inc. and organized as a charitable trust.
From 1994 to 1996, the ministry was involved with three major national outreach groups: the Luis Palau Association, Sports Outreach America/Washington, an evangelistic crusade in DC in conjunction with the World Cup of Soccer, and Promise Keepers, an outreach to men. For 16 months Marty was "loaned" to Promise Keepers and served as the Event Manager for the PK Conference held at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. attended by 52,000 men.
In the spring of 1996, Faith in the Family chose to expand its own organizational outreach and thus launched its Affiliate Ministry Program (now known as the Member Ministry Program), a deliberate decision designed to multiply its ministry effectiveness by fostering, adopting or "giving birth" to ministry programs under the Faith in the Family non-profit umbrella.
In the spring of 2000, after undergoing a complete organizational and operational audit, it was decided that the ministry would reorganize again in order to eliminate confusion over operating as a charitable trust. Faith in the Family International, a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3), Virginia non-profit corporation became the new name for the new millennium.
Entering the 21st century, FFI has become the parent organization for multiple ministry programs with a bright future for serving the Lord, the church and the family.
